Hemel Hempsted

We made it!  This 11.5 mile walk seemed harder than last week's 13 mile one.  We're going for an easier 9 mile one next time.

Winkwell

Nearing the end of our walk.  This is Winkwell swing bridge and we are beginning to wish that we had time to visit the Three Horseshoes over the bridge.

Unusual Import

A bizarre sight - a totem pole in Berkhamsted.

Wrong Walk

Excuse me Mr Heron I think you'll find that last week's walk was called the Heron Walk.

Boat in the Lock

An archetypal picture of a canal

Time for a Very Quick Break

Here we are taking a breather on what is turning out to be a bit of a route march due to being over ambitious about the time we would finish.  We had to change our plans for the evening when we realised that we weren't going to make it to the restaurant in time.

Floating Pub?

Was this really a narrow boat selling Fuller's beer.  Ah well it's on the wrong side of the canal so we will never know.

Another Arm

This arm is the Wendover Arm and another one on the list to re-visit after we have finished the main line.

Reservoir

This is one of the reservoirs which feeds the flight of seven Marsworth locks.  We walked up to have a look at the reservoir from the canal below - water, water everywhere!

Ducks!

Now begins Angela's quest to find the correct number of baby ducks swimming with mummy duck - don't they know the song!

Aylesbury Arm

Here is the first lock on the Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union Canal but we are walking the main-line so we just made a mental note to return here when we have completed the main walk for what is said to be a very tranquil walk into Buckinghamshire's county town.

Starting Out

Legends in our own lunchtime no doubt!  Another week, another birthday (Angela's this time) and another walk.

The boys (Andy and Brendan) are joining us this time.
