The End of the Aylesbury Arm

Andy met us in Marsworth and we decided to eat in a pub near to the canal but when we got there it was absolutely heaving because of the good weather so we went on to Tring instead which turned out to be a very attractive town. 

Staircase Lock

This is a staircase lock at the start of the Arm in Marsworth.  We thought that one book had said that this is the only staircase lock on the Grand Union Canal and we were up in arms as we have already seen one but when we re-read the entry it said it was the only one on the southern section.

Some Attractive Scenes

This was an idyllic scene with a lovely white house and garden that we went past and a pretty lock.  Our book talks about tranquillity and this was certainly a very tranquil part of the Arm.

This is just one of the sixteen locks along the six mile Aylesbury Arm.

And one of many bridges we have walked under along the canal in general.

This one is in need of some work!

Relaxing

Brendan walked this leg with us.  Actually he didn't walk with us but in front of us. This was a rare moment when we caught up with him.

Where's the Canal Gone

Our book told us that there would be tall reeds along the way - it wasn't wrong!

Leaves on the Canal

Wonder if leaves on the canal gave as many problems in the heyday of the canals as they do on the railway lines these days.

Dead Fish

There were quite a few of these at the start of the walk.  A fisherman further down said it might be the hot weather causing them to die but we thought it very strange as there were quite a few of them and they were different varieties.

A Hot Day for the Aylesbury Arm

Andy dropped us off near the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury but then we thought we were not going to be able to walk next to the canal because they were working on a car park and had it fenced off.  Luckily we found the way into the basin and thought it didn't look too great at the moment but had potential to be really nice.
