At Uxbridge

Here we are at Uxbridge now we've just got to remember where we parked the car!

Transporting Goods on the Canal

Having one barge towed by another barge is apparently the most efficient way of moving aggregates (or in this case logs) up and down the canal.

Denham Deep Lock

We had spurned an earlier pub in favour of the tearoom at this lock.  The tea and cake were fine here but we were a little shocked to discover there was no toilet.  Lack of toilets has definitely been a recurring theme along this canal. 

Denham Deep Lock, as it's name suggests is very deep at 11 ft it is the deepest on the Grand Union Canal.

Boy Things

Catherine decided that we needed to photograph the Andy and Brendan near some "boy things" and we thought that a railway bridge was definitely a boy thing.  The railway bridge was apparently built with blue bricks but they didn't look very blue to us. 

Canadian Geese

The parents hissed at us as we took these photos but we couldn't resist these babies!

Water Everywhere

Near this part of the canal there are lakes and rivers so there is lots of water and lots of boats.

Moorhens

This Mummy Moorhen is lagging behind as she is only sitting on her nest with no babies to look after yet.

An Inebriated Monkey

For some reason this old building from the glory days of the canal's working history has this monkey figure on it.

A Rural Scene

Here is one of many rural scenes that our book told us we would see in this area. 

What could be more typical than this scene?  We are just walking under a bridge after walking past a lock.

At Batchworth

Here we are ready to start on our walk to Uxbridge.  Andy and Brendan are walking with us today so we had to leave a car at Uxbridge where we discovered that most of the car parks don't take credit cards or bank notes!  Eventually we found a car park that did and drove to Batchworth where there was a lovely canal festival taking place with events such as these Morris Dancers and lots of lovely canal boats moored.
